The copter, known as Foxtrot, is being used to prevent drownings and help perform infrastructure checks, police spokesperson Lindsey Eldridge tells Daily Voice.

While in the skies Friday, July 1, Foxtrot noticed about 20 people in the Patterson Park pool after it had closed, Eldridge said.

"Officers informed the individuals that there were no lifeguards on duty and for their safety ordered the individuals to exit the pool," she said.

WJZ reporter Paul Gessler captured Foxtrot circling the same pool last month for nearly ten minutes, sirens wailing and police barking orders at swimmers.

While city police defended the helicopter's use, some say it's an extreme measure.

City Councilman Zeke Cohen caught wind of the discussion.
